GIZMO The DIY Theatre Company provides creative and media arts workshops to children and young people in the Hastings & St Leonards area. Workshops are aimed at 5-18 year olds and include; Performing Arts – Mondays 6pm – 8pm, Graffiti Arts – Tuesdays 5pm-8pm, Film and Animation (10-18yrs) – Wednesdays 6pm – 8pm, Art – Saturday 12 – 2pm, Performing Arts Saturday 2pm-4pm.

Artventures provides an opportunity for members of the community to meet in a relaxed, informal atmosphere where they can engage in a wide range of artistic activities. The drop session will be open from 2pm- 7pm. Artist Marcia Buckley aims to create a holistic experience and sees art as the by-product. Classes are for families, children and adults in small groups of 4-6 people. £3 per family

The Durbar Hall Residency at Hastings Museum

Annabel Tilley will be the Durbar Hall artist-in-residence for ten days during September. She will be drawing from the unique architecture of the building, and taking inspiration from the Victorian Brassey Collection of artifacts. On 5 Saturday September, 1.30-3.30pm, Annabel Tilley will lead an all-age family workshop Discover session entitled: ‘Cabinet of Curiosites’. This will involve making simple cardboard cut-out replicas of the museum exhibits. All welcome. Children under 13 must be accompanied.
Workshop is free, with a voluntary contribution towards materials.

Join Hannah Rollings, an Illustrator based in Bexhill on sea, in book-making workshops from recycling other books. Hannah plays with associations books have and the stereotyped readership. The workshops are for all adults interested in both illustration/ writing/self publishing/ zines. Launched during Coastal Currents, Rollings new book ‘Utterly Mindless Thrills; A peep show into the romance novel’ explores the hidden/ masked sleaze revealed within romance novels, often seen grasped in an old lady’s hand.

John Byrne Comic Book Artist and Author (X-Men, Fantastic Four, Hellboy)

As part of Rye Arts Festival John will be taking two workshops: the morning session is an opportunity for aspiring cartoonists and enthusiasts to develop their skills, whilst the afternoon workshop is a family event for adults and children alike to “have a go” at drawing cartoons and to pick up a few tips from an expert. Morning workshop 10.30am £10. Afternoon workshop 2pm £5 per adult, children free and must be accompanied by an adult.

Stone carving workshop

Stone carving weekend for beginners with Mike Williams. Learn the basics of carving in stone with this St Leonards based sculptor. During the weekend we will explore the history and practice of working in stone, utilising classic hand tools and hopefully carry away a sculpture to be proud of.

Dancing with Dabs

Come along and watch the colourful Dancing with Dabs Parade!
Starting at Breeds Pace (by Iceland), going through town, then over to the seafront, and ending by the side of the Lifeboat station.
The end of the parade coincides with the opening of the Seafood and Wine festival.
Children from local schools: Dudley, All Saints, Elphinstone, Sacred Heart, Sandown, Torfield and 2nd Hastings (Old Town) Brownies have learnt about the environmental heritage of the Stade and worked with artists from Radiator Arts to make fishy creations to celebrate our local fishing industry.
This project was supported by the Stade Education Project, the Stade Partnership, Hastings Borough Council and facilitated by Radiator Arts
“WHERE is Southwater?”
: Education & CommunityAn exhibition of design work and temporary postcard installations throughout Southwater, to discover the 300 years of history of the network of streets known as Southwater.
The Southwater Area Residents Association, have been awarded a £10,000 “Awards for All” lottery grant to implement part of their design ideas for the ‘up the road and round the corner’ arts project. Starting with commissioning ONE TWO ONE art and architecture to design a ceramic wall illustrating the development of this part of St Leonards-on-Sea.
The “WHERE is Southwater?” event is to highlight and celebrate the commission due for completion in October 2009.
