Film – ‘Ah Liberty’, Ben Rivers . The films of Ben Rivers are rich, cinematic portraits that explore wilderness environments and self-contained worlds, representing memory through visual fragments. Primarily shot on 16mm black and white film, sometimes on out-of-date stock, Rivers’ work has the appearance of ageing, archival footage…………’. Isla Leaver-Yap. A new breed of event to arise in Hastings: Ethos Festival represents alternative art cultures and will be exhibiting an energetic array of talents belonging to graffiti art, film, music and ex sports.
A collection of the South East’s most elite graffiti artists will be creating awe-inspiring murals based on the themes of progression & change.
Children and adults alike will be be able to interact with and participate in these art cultures through a number of arts workshops, multimedia galleries, tournaments and open microphone sessions, gigs and film screenings.

Sat 29 Aug 11am : Events & PerformancesIn its 4th year, The Hastings Film Challenge is an exciting opportunity for anyone to make a short 3 min film against the clock in an atmosphere of fun, creativity and good-hearted competition. As well as the general public, we target schools & colleges, with the objective of promoting creativity, education, inclusion and community via the world of film-making.
The challenge encourages the production of broadcast quality media through four 2hr workshops; the Edit Clinic at UCH will be available throughout the event. The Film Challenge culminates in a public screening of all completed films with awards.

As part of the First Thursday programme throughout the Old Town on 3 September, the artists of The Work Ship/ Incurva Studios + friends will be hosting a special Art Car Boot Sale.
Trawl an eclectic mix of curiosities, trinkets and treasures; original artworks and found objects, and grab yourself a bargain. Pin the tail on the (oil on canvas) donkey, enter the lucky dip, and join in other entertainments and games laid on for your pleasure. Glorious toot and nonsense! Tea flows freely.
Eat@ the park café film Screening
Sat 5 Sept 7pm : Events & PerformancesOur DJ will set the mood from 7pm, and the film will begin at sunset, around 8.45pm. eat @ the park café will be running a delicious barbeque on the night. Drinks will be available from the licensed bar, choose from the full cafe menu, ice-creams, cakes and refreshments which will be available throughout the night. Numbers are strictly limited, and entry will be on a first come first serve basis, so make sure you get there early!

Independent Day aims to celebrate the unique location, history and spirit of the America Grounds area of Hastings.
Taking its inspiration from the events of the 1840’s when this area of Hastings audaciously declared itself in support of the American Revolution and thus stated it’s Independence from the rest of the United Kingdom.

I will diagnose an appropriate artist’s publication to help you find a way through your woes, or at least to distract you from your plight.
The Bibliotherapy Artist’s Book Library has a wide selection of books on loan ranging in therapeutic benefit. The fee for this service will be one British pound, entitling the client to a pair of listening ears, an artist’s book prescription and a letterpress printed philosophical aphorism.

Hastings Museum & Art Gallery’s Indian Summer exhibition & events programme will be launched in dramatic style when members from the Kala Chethena Kathakali Theatrical Company perform a 500 year old dynamic and captivating dance/drama from Kerala, South India. With full makeup and costume and the special atmosphere of the Durbar Hall, a unique experience is guaranteed!
Free performance starts at 6.30pm. Pay bar and Indian-inspired refreshments available.
