Richard Evans will be launching his new book of poetry ‘Orbiting’, with a reading from the collection. ‘Orbiting’ is dark and powerful, full of bizarre and fascinating images, humorous asides, and quirky perspectives. Ed Boxall, who provided illustrations for the collection, will be joining the poet, to talk about the challenging opportunities of collaboration, and to exhibit work inspired by this unique project.

Create the Future “Champagne Seminar”

This event is designed to provide creative practitioners with an understanding of how they could work in partnership with schools to enhance the learning experience and skills of young people. This will be an opportunity to find out about funded opportunities, proposed training, mentoring and placement schemes.
This project forms part of ‘Create the Future’ annual schools event, where young people spend two days in the University experiencing lively workshops delivered by creative practitioners from the area, including theatre, music, graphic design, and many more.
A collaboration between Aimhigher Sussex, University Centre Hastings, Creative Partnerships, Helenswood School and Hastings Borough Council.

Seminar: “Conversations ……. From the Edge”

SoCo (South Coast Artists ) and the recently formed Photo Hub Group (PhG) get together to explore their interpretations of “the edge” – a strip of the local landscape between the East Hill and Glyne Gap. The result of this collaboraton between the two groups of artists culminates in an exhibition at St. Mary in the Castle, revealing an intriguing investigation of the shifting layers of time, space and cultural change within the area. Part of the Coastal Currents Arts Festival, the exhibition will run from 20th September to 4th October 10.30am to 6pm

There will be a seminar during the exhibition on Sunday 27th September (5pm to 8pm, at St. Mary in the Castle) when exhibiting artists Louise Kenward, Brian Rybolt, Steve Rutter and Jean Davey Winter will talk about their work, in conversation with guest speakers Jeb Haward and Patrick Jones.
