“Praised as one of the best UK arts festivals held outside London last year”
Culture24, 2010

Situated in the creative hubs of Hastings and St Leonards, Coastal Currents provides a showcase for the talents of the local arts community as well as profiling artists from outside the UK. Hastings is a town brimming with artists, writers, poets, musicians and performers. Due to favourable property prices, a spectacular coastal location and a stimulating and creative environment; a vast number of studios and workshops have steadily evolved.

Coastal Currents was initiated in 1999 by Hastings Borough Council and the annual festival remains an important event in the town’s arts and cultural offer. It attracts both local residents and visitors from Kent, London, Brighton and other parts of the South East region and mainland Europe.

In the last two years Coastal Currents Festival has been the focus of wide media coverage:

Creative Coast was formed in Spring 2009 by Hastings based artists Sarah Yates and Lorna Crabbe. Initially we collaborated on a local weekly arts e-bulletin, a resource for the creative community in Hastings and across the South East, providing a platform to profile and develop local practitioners’ work.

Creative Coast aims to foster the development, awareness, understanding and appreciation of the arts in Hastings and across the South East. We focus on working locally, developing arts and cultural projects that act as a vehicle to strengthen the sense of community within an area. We work to inspire, curate, manage and coordinate projects and events that appeal to all ages, and encourage participation of local families, practitioners and visitors.

Currently, Creative Coast is managing Project based at the Stade Hall until October 2011. Project is a community arts space delivering contemporary arts exhibitions and community engagement projects.
